engine noise need help
i have a 99 durango slt 5.2 stock ,when i rev my engine up it makes this rattling noise like if i had the wrong gas but its really loud, if i let go of the gas the engine is really quiet ,if anybody has any ideas it would be great.thank you

Since you have the 5.2 motor, remove the air hat from your throttle body, and look down inside with a flashlight. If it appears to be oily and wet down there, your belly pan gasket has gone south. If this is the case, you will want to repair it before the engine self destructs on you. BTWm are you seeing anyblue smoke from your tail pipe?? Is the engine using a greater amount of oil between changes than normal?? These are all signs of the belly gasket syndrome.

The syndrome I speak of applies to both the 5.2 and 5.9 engines are they are from the same design family. When you say at high rpms, do you mean that you can sit in your driveway and run up to say 2500-3000 rpms and hear this noise?? How is your oil consumption??
Have you had this D for a while, or did you just buy it??

its not the gas it sounds like there is some thing loose somewhere in the front middle part of the engine getting ground up by some gears is the only way i could discribe it i just ran the truck through emmisions and it pass my oil pres is fine a little under 40, i was thinking waterpump or ac comp thats the places that it hit hardest.

Ok, if you feel that it might be either the WP or the A/C, try removing the serpentine belt. Then fire up the motor for a minute or so and see if you still hear the noise. If not, then you have narrowed it down quite a bit.
Only run it for a short time though, as you will have not water pump flowor cooling fan with the belt off.
