Angry Help my 99 durango is pissing me off!!!!! Problem after Problem

Hi Im new and hopping someone can help me. I have had my Durango for a year now and it was great up to now!!! It started w a rubbing sound coming from the rear and front. Replaced the ball bearings in the front and it helped for alittle. Now every once in a while there is a rubbing sound in the rear when I turn or somethimes just going start. So after that now it is squirrely and shakes when driving it. You can feel it in the steering wheel. Then all of a sudden I was driving down the highway and the rpms started reving up and down quickly and then would stop. Five ten minutes later again the whole drive. The truck doesnt speed up or slow down when it does it. The exhaust just gets louder. Please help. I swear if it's the transmission thats it. This truck has been nothing but trouble. Oh it has 80,000 miles on it and I take good care of it. Once again please help w any suggestions Thank You

Well the not moving part sounds like a fluid is overheating.. You need to take it to autozone or another parts store that offers to pull the codes for free.. Do that and take and post the codes here if there is any.. if the tranny is overheating it would throw a code. (then you would have to ask why is it overheating)

Have you checked the transmission fluid level? warm it up by driving 15 minutes or so.. level ground, set parking break, move shifter into R,N,D,2,1 for 3-5 sec each then go back to N (neutral) and check the transmission fluid (pump does not circulate in Park so if you check it in park it would be the wrong reading)

You also have pressure sensor and regulator that are common problems.. (Transmission parts, easy fix) again you should have a code if one is bad. (although it would not cuase it to shake)

The PCM/TCM also can be bad (although it would not cuase it to shake)

Transfer case also could be a problem

The shaking could be many things.
Bad rear end
U joints
transmission
bad tires, bent rim..
ext..

When is the last time you changed the fluids? transmission? transfer case? rear end?...

it really sounds like you have two problems occurring, that have different reasons.
1. shaking
2. The not moving

Hey lis I have some great suggestions...
1. the reving up and down very wel could be your TPS otherwise known as the Throttle Position Sensor. As it gets old it will give you that rev prob when cruising or not.
2. the rubbing sound can very well be the tires.
Questions what size tires do you have, how many miles has it been or how long since your last alignment, and Have you had any suspention parts changed?

thank you for replying to my message!! The reason I know the rubbing sound isn't from the tires is because I had it for a year now and it just started. I thought myself that it was the tires but there is no rub spots at all. Its weird, it's hard to pin point really where it is comming from. I replaced the front ball bearings. And it helped but never replaced anything in the rear. No i havent had it alaigned yet gonna do that this week, hopefully it helps. Is the TPS easy to change and is there a way you can tell if it is bad or not? I try to do things on my own. Im just getting aggrivated because lately it has just been riding like ****, pulling left or right sometimes and just things keep going wrong. I just replaced the abs sensor too. I wish it would stop having problems. Oh no nothing changed in the suspension area. Thank you soo much

I would jack that thing up and start looking for loose suspension compoonents. Give everything a firm wiggle to see what moves.

It doesn't sound like this issue has anything to do with the bogging down issue. That truly does sound like it could be in the tranny if a clutch pack is slipping.

This is a link to help with the TPS. It is very easy to change and set the voltage.
The pulling left or right sometimes, is deffinetly an alignment prob. firestone has the best for the price. it is a life time deal. yes life time I have been back 4 times this year because I frequently change back and forth from 20's to 15's

1st thing I would do is remove the inspection cover on the rear diff and ck for metal clips inside. You may have broken clips for the track-loc, which would give a chatter sound when going into turns or pull out from a driveway. And if you are hearing a bearing sound coming from the trans, Then the big bearing on the overdrive unit maybe pitted. Also durango's have a problem with the rear leaf spring pads. Grease the pads or replace them if needed. Has far as the shaking, ck the pinion nut and driveshaft bolts.

My wifes Grand Am Did the swaying back and forth on the road, didnt think it was her tires either, but we tried changing them and it never did it again. Just a thought!
