Default MP3 / Ipod adaptor in 2003 durango

I searched and red the FAQ's.
I've googled, and found some info, but it seemed to confuse me more. I wanted to get first hand info from people who've done it in a Dodge Durango, or similar vehicle.
All I found on a few pages of search results were posts regarding newer stereos with the touch screen navigation. Maybe I didn't use the rigth terms, as MP3 was too short.
I'm getting my wife a portable mp3 player for Valentines day, and would like to be able to hook it up in her Durango without using the cassette adaptor or FM modulator.
I've seen some kits or harnesses to wire into the back of the stereo, but I'm not sure which stereo she has. It's got a CD player and a cassette (I think) It doesn't say Infinify anywhere on it if i recall.
Has anyone added a plug for an Ipod or MP3 player to their factory stereo?

if you are looking to just plug the mp3player into the stereo with the headphone jack i would say to save yourself the hassle and just pick up a cassette adapter, that is what i use and it works fine, plus you dont have to tear the dashboard open to put anything onto the radio

I know a couple people who've used the cassette adaptors, and FM modulators, and they weren't really satisfied with them.
I was looking to tap into the aux. input on the back of the factory stereo.
What brand cassette adaptor do you have?

i have a maxell adapter that i picked up at FYE for about $20, and it works great with my zune (will work with any mp3 player) and i didnt need to modify anything on the radio to make it work, just plug it into the headphone port on the mp3 player and go.

and the FM modulators suck, they dont transmit with enough power for the radio to recieve it clearly, that is probably what you heard about, the cassette adapters are MUCH higher quality sound

If you have the head unit with the CD changer controls of the face (the Disc forward and back buttons) you can purchase and adapter from USA Spec or PIE that will give you a true auxiliary input for your head unit. My 2003 Jeep Wrangler had this head unit. USA Spec also make an Aux Input Adapter specifically for Ipod that charges while it plays. They run anywhere from PIE unit cost about $75 on Amazon. Here's a link:

Thanks. That's what I was looking for. I'd rather not deal with the cassette adaptor. I will think about it.

I've got an rb1 nav radio with Mopar sirius satellite radio and Mopar Ipod integration in my 2001 durango (had to install a conversion harness). It works sweet seeing as you can control the ipod from the radio and with the nav radio you can see the artist and title of the song as well. Plus the ipod is in the glove box so its not out where someone can see it!

Hey turbodp, was the rb1 installation straightforward - just needed an adapter wiring harness? Does it drop right into the space without any adapter plates/screw locations? Is the aux Ipod only, or can it accept other styles of input?

If it just drops in, with the addition of an antenna (or 2) and works with the steering wheel controls, this really sounds like a gem of an upgrade for my 2001 D.

Yeah Dango it bolts right in with no mods other than the conversion harness and the addition of the nav antenna. Mopar made the conversion harness as a kit with the antenna harness and main power/speaker harness, and yes the steering wheel controls work! As far as the ipod hookup goes it does have an aux plug as well looks like a headphone style jack. If your looking for sat radio you need the reciever that mounts in the rear storage bin, this was also a kit I purchased from Mopar.
