I did not go to AAMCO but I just had my trans rebuilt in a 99 5.2 and it was under about $1,700 at Mr. Transmission.

I don't like AAMCO!

What ever you do, make sure the flush and back flush the radiator or replace it all together. Make sure they flush the trans cooler and/or install one. Also make sure they only use ATF+$ fluid and not multi-purpose fluid. Make them show you the barrel. I would also have them install a Transgo Shift Kit for $80 why their there.
