Default 2001 RT Transmission problem

Hello all again,

I seem to be having slipping in first gear only. When I start up it revs alittle high (slips) then catches and all other shifts are a OK. I know I am due for a rebuild with 140,000 on the clock. I have serviced the trans every 40,000 miles filter and ATF4. Don't know if it is worth a rebuild or time to let her go. All of my problems have been solved here so any input would help.

Thanks

Well being a RT i am assuming you have a 5.9L with a 46RE transmission.. when you serviced the tranny have you "ever" adjusted the bands? you are supposed to have them adjusted "every time" the transmission fluid and filter is changed.

You will find this link under the DIY (Do it yourself) section under the heading transmission.
This will tell ya how to adjust the bands....

Shorten that service interval to 32-36k miles. You would be 1 additional service ahead.

No flushes... ever. Always drop the pan, adjust the bands, swap the filter for a new Mopar and refill with real ATF+4. Do your diffs at the same time. 75w90.

Are you sure it's the trans slipping?? The fan clutch will often engage when first starting the engine. It sounds as though the engive is revving high when it's really not. When the clutch releases the fan all goes back to normal and it sounds like the trnaasmission is taking ahold. A common complaint and one that was covered in another thread on the forum.

Could be the torque convertor solenoid but it sounds like it could be a adjustment of the shifter cable as well.

Check your fluid level and try to sevice the trans like everyone is saying.

OK i have not got to the filter change and band adjustment. But I was out this morning and check engine light went on. P0138 1/2 o2s shorted to voltage. Can any of you guys help on this one and could it be related to the trans issue I think I'm having?

Again don't know what this code means?

it means there is a short int eh voltage on the o2 sensor, seems to be bank 1 sensor 2 and it is most likely unrelated to the trans issue, you probably went through a big puddle and got water in the sensor, erase the code and see if it comes back, if not dont worry about it, if it does come back change the o2 sensor (post-cat and since i think you only have one set of sensor on the 5.9 this doesn't matter) on the drivers side (bank 1)
