Eh, people make such a big deal about the airbags, truth is I messed with the gas generators a ton and never had one go off, you'd need to purposely try to make one explode for it to happen.
Replacing a clockspring is easy, I'd deffinetly go for it myself. Just unplug the airbag, I never cut power or anything. The hardest part is pulling the steering wheel off, you'll need some kind of puller and bolts to fit in the holes, you'll figure it out. You can use the redneck cruise control for now, it's called a brick, but there's only one speed and that's "WOT" haha.

Oh that's right you're moparman, the extra super cautious guy haha. If you do somehow manage to make it explode...let's just say you'll never touch another airbag in your life ha.
For the sake of the lenght of this tread, just get those shackles on and that clockspring fixed, I'm positive you can do it yourself haha, but like I said be prepared to pull that steering wheel off with a puller, that's the hardest part of both jobs.

I just got the shackles from Oreilly for $39.95. I went to AZ right next door to O's first but they have sh!tty service there so I put the box back and checked O's. I was in and out of there in 3 mins. Oh and AZ had them for $49.95 I think.
You say the tops could use washers? On the inside where the red rubber part is right? If you were to guess, how many washers would it need?

yeah on the top end with the rubber. well for me obviously there are no washers but maybe on the inside 3 or 4 on each side. than one on the outside of springs between the spring surface and the bolts head and than between the outside surface of the spring and the nut. those on the outside are probably already there.
I'd just go get maybe 10 steel washers.like i said you don't really need them. at least i don't think. the shackles are moving so the washer taking up space are just for looks.
I mean even if you go back a couple pages and look at the picture of the shackles some one posted i cant see any washers. they must be small or I'm blind. because on the top end i fail to see a stack of 3-4 washers on the sides, inside of the springs.
