Engine Swap
Hello y'all,
1st timer on this forum. Hope to find out some answers to some questions I have. I'm not a mechanic but do have some mechanical knowledge and would like to ask if I swap engines in my 01 from a 4.7 to a 5.2 will it mount up or do I have to modify. Any replies would be helpful.
My 4.7 is ready to blow a rod and would like to find another 4.7, but I've not had a whole lot of luck and was wondering if i found a 5.2 if it would work.
Thanks in advance,

Nope.
Stick with another 4.7. You need to swap everything if you try a 5.2L (transmission, PCM, wiring and motor.) The 5.2 was not available in 2001 thus practically incompatible. Just stick with a 4.7 or bump it up to a 5.7 or 6.1 HEMI. Still need to swap PCM, motor mounts and wring but the transmission will work.

ya the wiring swap from a 4.7 to a 5.7 ext.. is not something a amateur would want to try themselves, this is more of an advance wrencher upgrade. Take it to a shop and have them do it and you may as well buy u a new truck. So ur best option is to get another 4.7L

I read a recent article in a 4X4 magazine about a project where.. (remember I read this article I didnt write it.)
A VIPER V10 was swapped into a GEN 1 Durango Thats right a V10.. This required a major fabrication.....no...removal of over 1/2 of the firewall and building it into a doghouse type firewall.
Although that article was obviously someone with too much time and money on their hands, but not for the average man.
I like your idea of the 5.2 mod but obviously there are bigger dreamers out there.
