Should I try to replace to output speed sensor on the transmission to get rid of the ABS/brake light problem? Any idea on the 4WD light not working? I will check the wiring today, hopefully the snow will stop soon.

I checked the fluid and it is good, just touching the bottom of the line. I cleaned the trans fuse and some of the errors went away. Now I have the P1597 which goes away if I put back the brake fuse but I'm keeping it out due to the previous problems I have had. The other error is P0720 and of course the abs and brake lights are still on.

First you need to check the wire harness to the transmission and make sure there are no burns on the wiring or corrosion in the harness but concitering the you know there is a problem in the fuse box, well the box might be your issue.

Also the fuse box you are referring to sounds like the PDC under the hood. They are replaceable?

Would there be a fuse associated with P0720 error. What about the 4wd light and is it worth changing the output speed sensor on the trans? Are you saying you can buy the pdc? Any idea on the price if yes?

Thanks.

1. There is a transmission relay and fuse in the PDC under the hood. Replacement of the Output sensor should probably be warranted. Get it from the dealer.

2. The 4wd light is a switch on the trans, replace it or check for voltage at the harness.

3. Look in a junk yard for a 1998 PDC. I may even know of one.

4. Junk yards are usually decent pricing.

Okay I'm finally ready to tackle this problem. I plan to replace the output speed sensor and fix the 4wd light not working. Where are the output speed sensor and sensor for 4wd light located? How do I test the 4wd light? Thanks.

the output speed sensor is on the drivers side extension of the transmission, and the 4wd is tied in to the transfer case control module, and the transmission control module and the switch itself in the dashboard as well as being a fused link, you have alot of checking to do on that one, and some potentially very expensive replacements

On the NV-242 HD it's manual and on the transfer case on top. Only the electric models is in the dash as far as I know.

He stated the 1998 and those were 5.9L and 5.2L.

I would assume that it is a NV 242 or it could be the NV 231 as well depending on the shifting pattern. On the NV 231 it's located on top of the linkage inputs I think. Both are manual engagement.
