If you plan on adjusting the bands, the I wouldn't do a purging/power flush. I don't use the same method as what the books or dodge tells how to adjust bands. Thats because I have been repairing dodge transmission for 20 plus years. Remove the pan and inspect the bands. On the front band, stick your finger between the lever and the actuator. Does your finger fit. If it does, you need to adjust the band. I don't use a torque wrench at all for adjusting bands. With a 3/4 or 19mm socket or wrench loosen the nut and using a 30 torque adjust the front band until you have 1/4 to 1/2 of free play. Same freeplay on the rear band too. I only use a torque wrench for engine repairs and torque ties to factory specs. Your transmission could be a 46RE since you say you have a RT. But to be sure, you can send me a pm with the last 9 of your vin. i would buy 5 qts of ATF when replacing the filter and a pan gasket. When I use a power flusher, I'll use 12 qts of fluid, thats without a filter replacement.

This thread is about the differences between ATF+3 and ATF+4 only, not Purging transmissions. You need to look here instead: http://www.dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-...nsmission.html

So i have a 2001 caravan sport 3.3l , i would use atf+4 , correct?

This is weather just adding a quart, or changing the fluid?

I just want to be sure i read this right , as mine has 220,000, and no problems at all ....knock on wood.

You may want to ask that of the Caravan section. Don't know when the switch to AFT+4 occurred on the vans. This is the Durango section.
