Exclamation 01 durango not starting, checked battery & alternator an its not that, please help!!

hello everyone, i have a big problem and now i dont have transportation to get to work or pick up my family, this is our only car in our household so i would appreciate if some of you can give me some advice.

i have a 2001 durango and its not starting, i went to auto zone and they checked my battery & alternator an they said it was fine "i think they also checked my starter, and said that was fine too", i went to them because this problem happened for a little bit but after afew try's turning the key it finally turns over and starts, an even sometimes the problem doesnt happen at all and it starts just fine, but now its not starting at all, i tried many times with no luck.

when i turn the key it just makes a "click" noise, just a single click. like i said its not the battery or alternator so what other problems will cause this to happen? i would like to fix it myself because of course i dont have extra money just like the next guy so can someone give me some advice what i can try to do to see whats the problem.

thanks you guys, you've all helped me out here many times.

what about the rotary cap "i think he said", this was some advice someone at work gave me to check, could it possibly be this?

that is saying if it doens make a click noise then its the solenoid, but thats all the sound it makes, it does make the click noise when i turn the key, so does that mean its not that? or could it still possibly be this

i checked this video you suggested me to go to and it seems really easy to check the solenoid because its right next to the battery but in my dodge durango 2001 sport edition the solenoid isn't right there and i been looking for about 20 minutes and i cant find it, i tried to download a service manual but it came in 30 .pdf files so i dont know what section it is in an iv spent the last hour looking through it but i still havent had any luck, does anyone know where the solenoid is on my 01 durango? a picture of it will be much appreciated.

thank you evey one that has been responding.

You have a bad solenoid/starter. Bang, tap ,hit the starter to dislodge the solenoid when it will not start. Then try starting it. Try it, I ran mine like this for a few months. On and off starter working. Good luck

Neutral safety switch? Do you have an aftermarket alarm system? If your problem appears again, when you try to start the D, pay attention to the gear indicator. See if there is a ring around the P. It's happened to me a few times. If the P or N don't have a ring highlighting them, then it's a neutral saftey switch. It's gonna cost ya. I've figured out another way to start the D, PM me if you need more help.
