Exclamation 2000 durango trans, slipping

Got a 2000 durango sport. The trans started changin funny. When i put it into drive it takes a few seconds then takes drive. Then when it changes from 1st to 2nd it shifts like its got a shift kit in it.Then from 2nd to 3rd it takes a few seconds. When it finally gets into overdrive it keeps slipping when I give it gas(like if i am pushing in a clutch) but its a auto.I changed to filter and the fluild but still is doin it.What can be the problem?

You have a 42RE transmission. You can adjust it but you have to remove the pan. While your in there I would replace the Torque Converter Solenoid as it could be bad.

The 42re was bolted to a 4.7?!?! I thought it was the 45rfe for that motor?

The 45RFE was in the 4.7L hence the 545RFE. Both are electronically controlled.

The 42/44/46RE's were based from the Torque Flight series A500 and A550 if I remember correctly and they are Hydraulic with little electrical componants.

I do think they did make some that bolted up but I thought they were Canadian. Also the 1999 3.9 bolted to the 42RE

Well this is getting offtopic... my point was he said he had the 4.7l, so he should have the 45rfe, and a couple posts up you told him he had the 42re. I was just making sure he was given the right info!

But back to being offtopic, the 45rfe is a "fully electronic" transmission, meaning instead of the old school governor and throttle valves, shifting is controlled by solenoids. The 545rfe is a 45rfe that has an extra overdrive.

The 42re and 46re are the 42rh and 46rh with an electrically controlled hydraulic governor valve instead of the mechanical hydraulic governor valve. That was really the only difference. The 42rh, also called an a500, is a torqueflite 998 with an electronic overdrive unit in it's tail. The 998 was a 904 in a 727 case. The 46rh, also called an a518, was a torqueflite 727 with an electronic overdrive unit in it's tail.

I know nothing about the 44re.
