brake lights always on
I have a 1998 Durango that keeps the brake lights on at ALL times, it does not matter if the key is set to park, drive, lock or accesory. I also have the ABS and Brake light on my instroment panel coming up just a short minute after starting to drive the vehicle. does anyone have any good suggestions on tests to be ran?
the abs and brake light point to one of the speed sensors, on the top of the rear diff, or on the output shaft of the transmission, not sure about the brake lights being on unless you have a bad break light switch
If you pull up on the brake pedal and the lite goes out, replace the brake switch. With ABS, Ck for stored codes and ck the fluid level too. Now both lites will come on after the engine has been started. This is self check ( bulb) then if there is a problem, the lites would stay on and give you a stored code. Like shrpshter325 had stated, Maybe an ABS sensor and brake lite switch.
do you mean the tail light brake lights or the one on the dash?
brake light switch if it's the tail's, perhaps a short or stuck relay if on the dash?
Better answer above, I misunderstood two questions in one.

I can pull up on the pedel with the tail brake lights staying on.
The Fluid is full and there are no codes stored, i have a OBDII scan tool and ran a it before/during/after i drove it today and it was not recieving any codes even when the dash "brake" and "ABS" lights were on.
The scanner you used may not be able to pull codes from the braking system. I'm not sure if there's a way to flash codes on this model?
Unplug the brakelight switch, if the lights go out replace the switch. then worry about the dash lights.
