Default Is it worth tuning the 5.9 RT Engine?

Got my 2001 RT yesterday

I'm already wondering if the following actually produce any gains

Cold Air Intake System (I like the Keystone Ram Air/Shaker system)
Throttle Body Spacer
Performance Chip (but what stage)
Headers (This is where you usually see the gains)
Exhaust (it seems the stock one is good enough)

Probably about $1000 there

What would the total power gain be for shelling out all that?

Spacers are junk. Avoid.

Chips are junk. Avoid.

Everything else is valid. Very common topic that a search will turn up all the details. Keeps us from answering the same ol' same ol' EVERYDAY... what brakes? what tires? a lift? what performance mods do I add?

Build your own RAM air intake vs aftermarket cold air intake for cheap.
Throttle body spacer - makes a good paper weight (get a bigger throttle body)
Performance Chip - Termporary gain and then useless as PCM relearns and adjust to compensate for chip. (You need a programmer to make changes permanent or get a custom programmed pcm)
Headers and exhaust - Great if you have money budgeted for this.

$1000 you think? Problaby so.

custom ram air intake - $15
Programmer - $400
bigger throttle body $225 (fastman)
Headers and mufflers - $300 and up.

Power gain out of all this? Yes. But doubt you will see butt kicking slamming back to seat power.

I estimate at most realistically around 20-30 HP if you do ALL of this upgrade.

For butt kicking slamming back to seat power, you will have to do some mechanical upgrades to the engine itself. Heads, intake manifold, etc....

Simplest super horsepower upgrade for the money is to get a supercharger setup.

Indy Durango..............
Wow, your psychic

Thanks guys for the advice. I did read loads of other posts including those "tornado" fin things you put inside the air inlet
but
I couldn't see anything specific for the RT.
Being RT I wasn't sure if the engine was slightly tuned from the factory so I had to ask just incase some stuff was already there as OEM

Na...not psychic, just read about you and the D for sale on the DOC. The seller joined there to post up a for sale thread on your rig. Good buy!!

Nice LOW miles. Lots of truck left in your 'new' R/T.

Your R/T is all marketing. Same specs as my SLT+. On the DOC, I have a side by side compare of actual build sheets showing the cosmetic differences. What rear end pumpkin you have? Pic? Always a point of debate on R/Ts

I think only the 2000 model R/T have the performanced tuned PCM to get that teeny weeny 5 extra HP for 250 HP. But starting in 01, the R/T 5.9's aren't any different than the SLT 5.9's and rated at 245.

If they were marked 91 octane on the cap or instrument cluster it has that extra tune. I think it was SOME of the 2000 models only.

Correct. The tune gained 5HP and required high octane fuel. That's it. All other R/T Ds afterwards are marketing. Other than badges and stitching on the seats, all options could be ordered or had in the SLT+ package.
