Default lots of engine upgrade questions

hey guys, just signed up, i have a 99 durango with a 5.9. i have a ram air shaker hood, jet chip, and a flowmaster muffler with dual pipes. the truck runs pretty good but i am itching for more power. i lost to my buddy's 99 ford excursion with a bone stock v-10 in it and that was kind of embarrassing.

i am looking at headers for the truck and i also want to gut the cat but in order to do that i need to find an O2 eliminator. does anyone make them for the durangos? i am new to the gas mopar market as my expertise is in ford 7.3 diesel's.

are there any other semi- simple mods for the engines short of internal engine changes? i would prefer to shy away from cam and head swaps in this rig

Hello!?? It was a V-10.

Your 5.9 is no better than another with the chip. Get rid of it, its junk.

Don't gut the cat. Our cats flow fine as is as stock. +1 on your Flowmaster and duals.

Otherwise, swap the TB, flash the PCM, run the motor cooler, M1 intake, cam or 1.7 RRs and no cam, PPH headers. Generally I won't list the items because they are here already in 1000 different threads.

Just remember, Rome wasn't built in a day.

what are you flashing the pcm with? certain brand tuner? also, what is the problem with the chip- what are the disadvantages of it?

isnt the m1 intake for carburetued engines?

and the v-10 excursion is only rated at 275 hp and weighs over 7500 lbs........ i shouldnt have lost to him....

thanks for the tips, i will start looking for the parts

look at the torque differences, you are only making 330-340 ft lbf, what is he making?

and the m1 is just to increase airflow it will work great on the 5.x series engines, you can get a custom B&G flash which you send it out them and they reprogram it, or you can buy a tuner (there are a couple out there i believe superchips is the favorite).

and chips are useless, the computer eventually learns that it is there and compensates for it by adjusting the internal settings and after about 500 miles (if you are lucky) it is as if you never had the chip

i will probably pass on the intake for now, i am looking at the throttle bodies, summit only carries a 52mm holley, what is the favorite?

i will look into the superchip as well, had one in the 7.3 and liked it so hope it performs well in the durango. how much increase are they worth?

also, how about the 1 inch spacers? are they worth picking one up?

Come on man. search and read a little. VERY common questions and answers are everywhere.

Spacers are JUNK.

Ask me how I know. (Although, 8,000 lbs is a lot to get motivated.)

It's actually 310 hp but you're pretty close on the weight.

Wrong. Excursions were only made 2000 to 2005 and ALL that were V10s got the 310/425 rating.

He might have an early 2000 model but it's still a 2000 model. Same as mine. Built 10/99 but sold as a 2000 model.

Now, he could either have the 3.73:1 gears or the 4.30:1 gears with that V10. (Sounds like he has the 4.30:1.)
