Default Oil question or oil rumors !!help please!!

Have my eyes on a 01 durango 2 wd. it has all the bells and whistles.[power everything] I believe it is the sport version.anyway was talking to a good friend of mine who works on trucks for a living.(builds buggies and crawlers etc.)but he has warned me to steer clear of this year durangos that have the 318 motor in them.seems the 360(if in these models)are ok,just the 318's.he says the exhaust runs to close to the oilpan and cooks the oil and thereby causing death to the engine.I am new to the durangos so therefore dont have any knowledge about them.so can someone tell me if this is a problem or has my buddy drank one to many today.thanks guys!!!

Your first post and all the Dodge bashing cliches know to man? Oh really...

Before the Dont Feed the Troll Warning comes out, your friend is an idiot. There are no 318s on the 2001s and 318s have been proven as reliable motors for more years than he has probably been alive.

With that said, here is the warning for everyone else...

thanks for all the love i'm feeling. as i said durangos are new to me,and for the record my driveway consists of 2 f-150's a chevy a toyota and yes a 86 ram(which happens to be my favorite, and at last oil change had a 318) I have hauled more hay and more horses with the dodge than all the others combined. Its still the 1st one i go to when its time to do any work on the farm. the only downfall is mpg, that goes to the ota.But while were on the subject is there any common problems with this paticular model before i drop any money on it.its kinda hard to come by these days. Oh yeah very cool pic. what exactly would you feed a troll like that.loljust trying to expand my knowledge guys no harm intended.

as indy said, your friend is an IDIOT, the 3.18 is one of the most reliable engines made, also, the 4.7(287ci) or the 5.9(360ci) engines where offered in 2001, and the 4.7 is another VERY WELL MADE ENGINE if taken care of properly. the only big issues with these truck is the front ball joints on the 4x4s wearing out, and alot of people have had to replace the hvac blower resistor($15 part 20 minutes to change)

The 318 and the 360 have that same block, oil pan, and every other part you can think of other that the PCM and the stoke not to mention that it wasn't produced in 2000-2003+. That said your friend is an idiot.

I love my Ram and really loved my Durango (as my favorite truck to date).

I think that your friend has sniffed too much welding fumes from building buggies and rock crawlers or maybe he hit his head on too many rocks from roll overs!!
