Default possible power steering problem??

Hi there, I have a 2000 Durango with 4.7L and 135,000 miles. I've had this less than a year and absolutly love this truck, but I noticed this last winter that when the truck was cold or sat for awhile and the engine cooled off that I had no power assist for a few minute, then all was fine. Its still doing it but not as bad and I'm not sure if its an early sign of the pump or rack/pinion going bad. I havn't found a mechanic that will give me any help unless I pay to have them look at it. There are no leaks anywhere. The pump has a groan to it when turning at slow speeds. I've tried to change out the fluid but hasn't seemed to help. Any idea's would be great.

yeah, sorry I haven't gottin back with you guys. I've been extremely busy! I checked out the "do it yourself section" and it sure seems to be my pump going bad. I read somewhere to stay with a new pump and not the rebuilds, cause the rebuilds don't last. I can't find a new one anywhere, so I'm looking at the Napa rebuilt one. Just waiting for some extra money to come along to dive into this project.
