Default whurring noise from back

Its the best I can explain it. I hear a whurring noise that I first thought was the tires...but its not. The whurring noise increases with speed and decreases as I slow down. Any ideas what this could be?

thx in advance...tim

When was the last time you did a rear diff. oil change? How many miles on the vehicle? What kind of vehicle? Size of engine? We need further info on the above and also what size rear end you have along with gearing.

I thought it might be the Diff so I had it changed 100 miles ago...No change in the noise. Its a 1999 Dodge Durango 4x4 with a 5.2 liter V8. It has 134,000 miles on it.

Could also be a wheel bearing.

You can always take it in for a second opinion?

Does the sound coming from the rear,or the center of the truck? Because there is a bearing inside the overdrive unit that goes bad. Most people think its the rear diff or transfer case.
