Appears my electric fan has died. Purchased a universal fan from Car Quest, but didn't think to check the mountings on the stock.

Of course the shroud is all different on the stock, <@> , something like that. Two bolts holding it in place on the left and right.

Is it possible to remove the shroud from the stock fan? Or try to mount the universal fan with its shroud?

Dealer wanted something like $310 for the replacement assembly (fan and shroud). Any recommended places online to purchase from? Or are there any other write ups on a better solution to replacing the e-fan?

Need to get this sucker replaced because it sucks while idling. AC starts blowing warm air and its just too damn hot to deal with that...

 

anything is possible if you put enough effort into it, not sure wher eyou are located, but if you are near by id be willing to give you a hand

 

You can get them at your local auto parts stores for a LOT cheaper.

As for going to the local stores for the fan... ya, I went to them all and they all had the same universal fan: http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web..._A|GRP2070____

They did look up the part, but it was funny that none of them could really guarantee it was the OEM part. They were afraid it would be another universal fan.

With knowing the actual OEM number, I've been able to find it way cheaper online.

Well I'm trying to get the fan out. Like the write up, my A frame blocks a bolt (the side with two). However, on the other side of the fan, i can't get the single bolt out. It turns with both a socket (and allen), but I'm afraid the nut clip is busted or something.

I'm not sure how in the hell I'm going to get anything down there to help isolate the clip it screws into. I've tried jamming a flathead in between the shroud and the mounting to make it taunt, but no luck.

Any ideas?

 

Well I broke the shroud part around the bolt. Removed the fan and I can now get my hands down in there. I can feel the plastic clip turning around inside the molding. Going to see, if I can get a small pair of vice grips up in there to wedge the clip.

Typical DIY...lol. Could have been done 2hrs ago.

 

I forgot to mention that part, the plastic got broke as well. Used a small pair of vice grips to hold it in place before removal. Busted knuckle and blood was shed. Fun night!
