Default Factory Alarm Problem

Sorry if this isn't the right spot for the question - tried in the new members area but was getting a lot of hits.

My 2000 Durango SLT 4x4 has the factory keyless anti-theft system with remote start on the fob.

My issue is that when I close the doors it beeps once immediately, then around 30 seconds later it arms the alarm even though i did not lock the doors! So if i go to open the door, the alarm goes off and all of the other campers stare at the guy who keeps arming his loud alarm by accident.

Is there a way to set it so the alarm only arms when I lock the doors with the fob or otherwise?

Thanks for any insight. I'm trying to avoid going all the way to a dealership for them to brush me off.

i have not heard of a stock system with remote start, but i would start by resetting the alarm system

if you want to add new fobs and dont have one, the dealer needs to program the first one, (if you are getting more than one just take em all with you, its sooooooooo much easier)

however if you already have a fob and want a 2nd (or 3rd ect) you can add them on your own, its explained in your manual

If you have the remote start on a fob, you have an aftermarket alarm system with remote start. To my knowledge, Dodge never offered that as an option. The only thing that a stock fob has on it is a panic button, lock, and unlock button on it. On the back of the fob it should read DaimlerChrysler on it, if it doesn't, it is aftermarket.

I don't know of a OEM key FOB with a remote starter either.

Ok, thanks all! My fob appears to be factory, dodge ram symbol and all. I'm out of town for a couple days, so I'll be double checking for daimlerchrysler on the back and trying to reset when I get home this weekend. In order to remote start, I press unlock three times, so it does only have the three buttons described and appears to look just like the last one my family had on another Durango.

This would be a first for me to know that Dodge actually put on a remote starter as an option on their vehicles.
