Default Throttle Body or Fuel pump (Video)

Hey Guys and Gals,

I am seeing an issue with my Dodge 2000 5.9 Durango. It idles ok and runs fine but if I give it gas and then let off it dies. Or if I am driving it and come down to a point I lift off the gas it will die. It usually only does this few times after running. This weekend I drove it a lot and put in two tanks of gas with Lucas Oil treatment and it seemed ok. I went to drive it today and it died on my like 5 times so I brought it back home and jumped in my car. So my question is do you think it is the throttle body or the fuel pump going out. If it is the tb should I just replace it with a new one.

Here is a video I tired to do to help describe the issue.

Thanks,
Joe

Just pop off your throttle body and give it a good cleaning. Additives do not work as well and I am not a firm believer in Lucas. If it still does it after a good cleaning, you might want to look at the IAC and replace that. IAC stands for Idle Air Control motor. Usually when a fuel pump starts acting up, it will act up at higher RPM speeds and not at idle. Higher Rpm's require more fuel or pressure while idling requires less fuel or pressure.

i agree with pete on everything, all additives are junk, unregulated and not worth your money, so like he said clean the tb, and then head over to the IAC motor (its on the back the of the throttle body)

Sharps<----- Pete said he didn't like em.......LOL

jd<----- You said you jumped it, I am wondering about if you had to jump your Durango or your car. If your Durango needed to be jumped then it can be your battery or alternator. If that's not the issue then I fully agree with everything Pete said to do.

Well, it's not a bad TB, maybe dirty.

If this is occurring during throttle release, I'd look into the IAC or the TPS.

In this situation the TPS may be sending a bad signal to the PCM, causing the issue.

Also, the IAC is receiving a signal from the PCM, but the IAC is not responding correctly.

Anyway, I would again follow Pete's response first.

Hey Hydra,

No I did not jump it with my car. I meant I jumped in it.

I will clean the TB maybe just replace the sensors too. No reason to do one then have to do again.

Sounds good, also remember to replace the Throttle Body Gasket and clean that IAC seat REALLY good.
