front end noise
I have a 2002 slt 4x4 95000k, I have a intermitant grinding noise coming from the pass front. (it started 4 hours ago after a panic call from my wife) I took it out for a drive and I heard the noise a couple of times mainly after I turned and started to give it gas.
I pulled the wheel and brakes off to check it out and I think my wheel bearing is ok.
I think the noise is coming from the bearing where the front drive shaft goes into the transfer case. The seal looked a little wet and when I rotate the hub there is a definite noise.
Is this something a weekend mechcanic can fix??
Any help from the experts is much appreciated.

It is a 30 minute fix. Replace the entire hub and you get the bearing for free (the only way it comes actually.
)
It comes off as exactly as it looks like it would. Nothing special.
Easy. Done.

Does the sound go up and down with the speed your are traveling at? i.e. higher speed faster sound, lower speed slower sound. If the sound is changing pitches it's most likely your bearing. I had 92,000 miles on my D when I had to change my RF hub assy. I think the LF, on my D, is starting to make noise now.
