Engine Light on
I told the dealer that my engine light was on he said that if I am not having problems then it could bbe a false reading I never had the light come on with my 1999 Infinity? So why should my light be on now Sounds like he does not want to diagnose it or does not have the computer hookup to get the code?
I just brought the Car and it has a 6 month 50/5o warranenty So I would normally take it to my own machnaic But with the warrenty I dont know The last time I was down there they took all day to install a satalitte system that they said I had to have put on my Dodge Durango I was there all day They did not have a curisdy ride back home I did nit have anyonne to drop me off So I am not looking forward to taking it back there again, Even for a check out. Thay are always backed up with in stalls of thier Sat System Its suposed to prevent you from driving the vechile if you miss a paymnet or find the car if its stolen?

It sounds like you have had a DUI and they installed a Ignition interlock
Anyway, if the check engine light is on it means a sensor is bad or you could have an issue that could cost you out your ****. You can go to Auto Zone or Checker Auto Pats (or similar) and get the code read and fix the problem or ;
2000 and newer Durangos have a built-in system that can display check engine light (CEL) codes without the use of a scanner. 1999 and earlier Durangos must be read with a OBD-ll scanner. Your local auto parts store can get the codes for you either way and will usually do this for free.
2000 and newer directions:
Turn the key to ON (not start), OFF, ON, OFF, ON and leave it there. If you look in the odometer window the codes will flash any code(s) with a small delay between each result. Each code should be in a P#### format, and will say PDONE when completed - turn your key to OFF and remove. Use the OBD code list to determine what problem the computer detected.
To reset your engine codes:
Remove the negative terminal of your battery (10mm wrench).
Turn your ignition key to START and hold it there for about 15 seconds.
Turn your ignition key to OFF and remove it.
Connect the negative terminal of your battery.
Start but do not hit the throttle. Idle for about 10/15 seconds then turn off.
Restart the truck and drive as usual. It will take at least 12 starts and 48 miles to fully retune the computer. Hard Codes leave a shaddow for 40 full cold starts.

No I don't have a DUI device, Nor have I had a DUI. They do install a Satellite tracking device on all cars and trucks they sell there, If you miss a payment or the vehicle is stolen they will send a code to the vehicle and it will not start the next time it is turned off. I will try and get the code from the procedure that you mentioned here. I have not tried Auto Zone for the code ids yet I have not seen a code But I did notice that the Engine light did come on after they installed the Satellite tracking device? I am not getting any codes the way the device works is that I have to wait until I hear 2 short beeps then I can start the truck If I don't wait for the beeps it will not start. Does this device prevent reading of the codes? My Engine Oil Light is not really high but 3/4 on the right side The Mecanhic at thye dealership said that a higher Oil reading is ok and that as long as its not low dont worry but can this cause a high oil reading code? I cant see any does when I try the procedure I have a 2002 Dodge Durango SXT.

why did you let them put the tracking device in there? as soon as they told me they wanted to put that in there i would have said no and walked out the door, that device is most likely your problem IMO
and the procedure is kinda difficult to get right at first, if the light is not on it wont show any codes that way, however sometimes a scanner can still pull codes

I went to Val U Car because I could not get traditional financing thru a dealership or my Bank after a Divorce. I am a former business Owner. I am also Disabled and living on SSDI So its not easy to get a car loan. They do install tracking devices on all cars and Trucks that they sell. I did get $4500.00 on my 1999 Infinity I 30t in trade. Yes the interest rate is high but the only good thing is I am driving a safe Vehicle that will go where ever I need it to without having repairs every month or so. It was time to trade the car after 92K miles. I did go to Auto Zone and the Code was the Gas Cap which was on tight but still causes the Engine Light to remain on? any ideas? Replace the Gas Cap/ Can I put a locking Gas Cap on the Truck?

im sure you can get a locking gas cap, but that code can also be set off by cracked evap hoses on the charcoal canister (underneath the truck, about even w/ drivers seat) or cracked evap hoses under the hood
