Default Air Intake

Hey guys, been a while since i have been on here.

I Just have hopefully a quick and easy question here.

I was looking at my air intake i did a while back and didn't like the fact that it didn't connect straight to the throttle body. you know on the 4.7l engines it has that black square'ish cover on it which is just a hollow space running through it to the throttle body.

So i wanted to take it off and attach my tubing straight to the throttle body. but what i had noticed was there is a sensor or some sort inserted into the back of the black square piece. I'm not sure what its for and my intake wasn't suitable to support it. Now my question is what is that?

Here are some pictures to help you guys see what it is i am talking about

Here is one view of it, its the cable all by its self going into the black square piece.

Here is me holding the sensor i was talking about.

and here is a random picture of the sensor not inserted into its place just to help show what i'm talking about a little more

Well guys what do you think? do i need to go buy a new part of the tubing or can i get away with doing something different?

That is the IAT or inlet air temp sensor. You wanna have that installed but installation is simple. just make a hole in your intake air tube and stick the sensor through it. if it doesn't fit snug try to find a large thin nut you can put on the inside.. On my D I just have an even hole bored in my K&N tube..

looking more at the pics it wound seem that in the 4.7 it doesn't have any threads.. find some super glue or improvise however you feel.. good luck

Yeah i think I'm just gonna find a longer rubber grommet from the one I'm using and cut a small hole and stretch it and then stick the sensor in there. Sounds like not a big deal thanks guys!

There are 2 types of Inlet Air Temp sensors on the 4.7L engine.

1. There is a snap-In Type sensor and;
2. Threaded Type Sensor.

this is the snap in sensor. you just twist it around so it pops out.

Well since mine was the off brand air intake setup, the whole buy the parts and piece it together yourself i had t come up with my own way of putting it in. those name brands like afe airraid and K&N all come with a sensor slot to place them in. unless yours hooked up to that black silencer box thing.
