Default Hello all, my Durango has a CPU problem!

2003 Durango just got told by the dealership need a new computer P0601 is what the PCM is spitting out(i think), tried to flash it but it didn't take. It still runs good but won't pass emmissions. Here is a funny I asked the service man if the PCM is bad why is it still running, his reply was that's what the man in ICU being treated for a heat-attack said! Took me a second for it register... so what you are telling me is that my Dodge has clogged arteries? Yes!! was his reply...
So what Im looking for is a cheap way out.. can I pull a PCM from another Durango same year same style and replace mine? Or is it better to pony up the bucks and let the dealer fix it?
Thanks for your help and any suggestions.

You can swap one in from a junkyard,

if you swap one in the usually need to be programmed for your VIN # and mileage, especially if your truck gets plugged into a scantool for inspection (i know they do this in NJ) if you go to the junk yard you will still need the dealer to flash it. However there are places online that sell them pre-flashed for you (you give them the information they need, they will ask you for it at the time of purchase) so that once you get it its just a matter of plugging it in

Here is some information that your dealer may not know. When flashing the jtec or pcm, unplug the ABS module. The abs module will cause a lock out to where the pcm will not take a flash.I did a flash two years ago on a DF member dakota for the same code P0601and its been okay since.

The truck runs good just couldnt get it to pass emmissions here in GA with the check engine light on. After the dealer told me I need a new PCM this fourm helped me alot thanks for the help and tips. I now have a rebuilt PCM on the way from company in Florida for a fraction of the cost the dealer wanted, hope it works, i just gave them the info from the Durango it should be here in a few days.
Thanks again for the suggestions.....
