Starting Issue
I just went to crank my D and it turned over and started for a second and then dies. When it starts, the rpms jump for a second or to and then lowers and dies. I can keep it running by keeping the gas pedal pressed. If I let it off it falls on its face. After doing this a few times it finally stays cranked. After idling for awhile I shut it down and tried to crank it again. It cranks fine but when the rpms settle after cranking the engine it drops down to 400 and acts like it wants to die and goes back to 600 rpm and everything is fine. When the rpms drop to 400 my lights flicker before it goes back to 600 rpms. Does anybody have any suggestions on troubleshooting this problem. I love my 2000 Durango 4.7, it has almost 200k on the speedo and never any problems other than ones that I have caused.

i agree with whitewidow, sounds like the IAC motor, nope, no way to troubleshoot it that i know of, however it is a classic symptom for the truck to only start w/ the gas pedal floored when this goes bad or needs cleaning (you could try cleaning it before you replace it, this sometimes works, but is not a certainty)

There really isn't but what I can provide you with is some useful things (cleaning out the IAC and throttle body).
https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen...ttle-body.html (for if you have a 5.2/5.9)
http://www.mediafire.com/?k0742k5tvj1dqxh (for if you have a 4.7)
BTW, in the future it helps us out to know what engine you have. Just put it in your sig or in the post. Different engines have different symptoms.

Thanks fella's for the advice. It looks like it was the IAC. I cleaned it and installed it back and walla it was back to its old self again. It would start up and ramp the rpms to 1500 for a sec and ease down to 1000 for another sec then drop down to 650 for idling. The symptoms are gone and all is good on the home front. It even went back to bumping the idle up a tick to compensate for an accessory being turned on.
If there was a thanks button I would press it since there is not I will give you some
