Theres loud and there's rumble. Rumble sounds good. Straight pipes sound bad (not the cool bad either). Chevy has a really annoying BAP BAP BAP sound from straight pipes. Glasspacks are louder than that 10 series.
I've had 4 different systems on mine, and i'm really liking the 40 series on the 5.9. It rumbles at idol and sounds like nascar at 4k rpm.
I have a Thrush Glasspack on my D and does exactly what you said. Loud when I want it to be and can also be tame when it needs to be. When I go through the tunnel in Boston, I get a little throttle happy and at about 4200rpm, my D sounds like an indoor arena monster truck show. Unlike that 10 series in the video, my glasspack has never once had that annoying fart cannon sound to it. It almost sounds like a big block sometimes. I love the way it sounds, low and rumbly.

But like bowhunt said," To each their own."

When I Installed my GP, I used a straight inlet/outlet GP and a short piece of pipe. when I was done, I had to tweak the tailpipe a small bit but it is still in the factory exit location.

I'm just confused at what people think is a fart cannon, I always thought that name belonged to like I-4's and V-6's, not 4.7l V-8's, IMO, which matters to me the most because it's my truck, I think the Flow 10 is a nice, loud sound, not a tuner or ricer sound.

Agreed but obviously the 4.7 is going to sound ricerish compared to a 5.9 and a cammed 5.9....

4.7 liters is roughly 286 cubic inches. That's a SMALL V-8. You can find V-6s and I-6s that size.

So, yeah, they may not quite have the "chainsaw" sound of the little Hondas, but it's still not something that you can just throw a new muffler on and have it sound like a powerhouse of a motor.

I grew up in the days when the cars that high school kids could afford were from the late 60s and early 70s. In my mind, even the 5.9 is on the smallish side of what a V-8 can be. (5.9 liters translates to only 360 cubic inches. That's about the size of the motor in my first car, a '71 4 door Olds Cutlass family car. When I think of a "big" motor, I'm thinking big block. But then I'm an old fart, things are different these days...)

Bowhunt, I am originally from just south of Boston where most of those little POS Hondas all have stupid huge muffler things sticking out of the back of them and when they mat the pedal, it sounds like the car starts farting up a storm, hence the term, "fart cannon." LOL

I agree with you that the 4.7 is a small engine when compared to other v8s. My Ford has a real engine, it's a BB 7.5L 460ci w/ cam and there is no comparison the the sound between them. The D w/ glasspack has a low rumbly sound that is kind of quiet. The Ford has flowmaster super 40's and has almost a glugging sound to it. Open the throttle on both and the BB is way louder the the SB. Personally I would rather drive a BB powered truck, but it just costs too much which is part of the reason why I now have my D.

Ohhh! Now I get what you guys mean by fart-cannon! Haha! I'm only 19, so a Flow 10 on a 4.7l is plenty loud for me, but I can bet my dad and grandpa can say otherwise with the noise, I'm perfectly fine with my durango :P!

Ahh, you're 19... That explains why you're still so clueless....

The point isn't to be "plenty loud", the point is to "sound good".

Until you learn the difference you're going to be in the embarrassing position of driving around thinking "ain't I cool" while in reality everyone is watching you go by saying "what an idiot"....

Alright buddy, I don't really know who you think you are, but you're wrong in two areas, one, I'm not a clueless 19 yr. old, I'm actually a very well educated college student a.t.m., and two, I'm not driving around thinking that "I'm cool..." and having everyone thing that I'm an idiot, it's called something I'm passionate about. I'm not putting this muffler on to look cool, in fact, I can give two s**** about what people think, I, like the sound of that muffler, hence I'm getting it put on...and to think I'm an idiot...well, I know not to drive by your house in my durango, you might need to change your pants after. .......
