Default Turn Signal Problems

First off, this is my first post, so hello to all. I came across this sight trying to research a problem I have so I'm hoping someone has had the same issue.

My turn signals are acting up on me but I don’t think it’s as simple as changing the flasher on the fuse panel. They started to flash a couple times, then quit, and now they won’t flash at all more than one time, and most of the time not at all. In the past when a flasher went out on me the signals would get stuck On with the dash indicators the same way. Now they stay Off. If they do blink the bulbs light up so I know they should be fine. I’ve checked the hazard lights and all work and blink with no problem. I can hear the flasher under the dash doing its job too. I’ve also checked the brake lights and they all work and come on when brake is applied.

Another crazy thing that happened the other day is that the lights that show the gear select (R N D L1 L2) went out too, but have been ok ever since. No other dash lights were affected. Not sure if this problem is related to the signals or not. I’m kind of scared this may turn into a big mess testing all sorts of things before I find out what it is. What do you guys think?

For the record I have a 2000 Durango, 4.7L, full time 4wd.

I'd start by pulling the instrument cluster and examining the wires that go into it and check for moisture. It sounds to me like theres a simple short in the wiring somewhere, and I'd also go ahead and pull all the fuses and check to make sure they're all in tact still. If they're not, replace them as needed.

Do the turn signals light up when it does this, or do they blink along with the instrument cluster?

Sounds like a multi-flasher to me. $10

Just picked me up some of that blinker fluid - works like a charm It actually was the flasher though. I never had one act like this so I didn't think that's what it was. I'm glad it was because it was an easy fix. Thanks guys.

Yeah, when you said multi flasher I figured it meant that the hazard and signal flasher were separate but in the same unit. So I thought I'd give it a try. I went to two different stores to find it. The first had one in stock but it was $43!! The second one was more reasonable but the guy there still said it was more than normal at $19.

I'm definitely a newbie when it comes to this stuff. My problem is similar. My hazards work perfectly fine. My left and right turn signals do nothing. If they do work they might flash once, rarely twice.

Does my problem sound like a multi-flasher fix? Is this what I ask for at Autozone?
