Default 4.7 to 5.7 swap

Got a 2001 Durango jumped time. It has a 4.7L and parts are not cheap for it. Can get a running 2002 Durango with no title and no tranny/transf. case cheaper than the parts for the 4.7. It has a 5.7L Hemi, has anyone swapped these out before? Will the wire looms interchange? New one has everything.

no it does NOT have the 5.7 hemi(unless 2002 is a typo), the hemi was not available in the durango until 2004, it probably has the 5.9 and if you want to swap it you will need to basically swap the entire driveline

the 5.7 should bolt up to the 45rfe trans, so it can be done but you would need the engine, wire harness AND pcm for the 5.7

Right sorry just 5.7 was reading another forum and Hemi was on the brain. Does the wiring harness unplug on the engine side of the fire wall or will I have to pull the dash and chase wires for a week? As I said the 2002 is all intact as far as the Engine, Brain Box, and Harness.

uhh, i still dont follow what you have gotten already, the 2002 has either the 5.9 (magnum engine) or the 4.7 in it, they have completely different transmissions, and in order to swap btwn them you pretty much need to change everything all the way back to the axles (the axles can stay, but engine, transmission and t-case need to go).

im actually not sure where the wire harness unplugs, im sure master tech will have the answer for you

Ok 5.9 (guy on craigslist sez 5.7?) (to me a 5.7 is a chevy 350) I don't know durangos like silverados or c10s. Always worked on chevys or fords or harleys. So the 5.9 will not bolt to the 4.7 tranny? Well there is no need for me to buy the 02 model. Guess I will spend 800 to put in a timing chain myself or 1400 for a shop. Next time will buy a chevy timing chains are cheaper.

Either that or get a 5.7 Hemi and bolt it to your 4.7 Transmission- It's a direct fit..A swap is a matter of computer to Harness swap and re-wiring the PDC."Power Distribution Center", You won't have to mess with dash wires at all..Or any other wires for that matter..
You can get a 5.7 Hemi for around $1,500.00. And do it yourself by Checking out the swap called
Dakota Hemi Swap!!!With Pics!!! on this sight. It will show you everything you'll have to do from beginning to end..Including the ECM and TCM pin-outs you'll need to re-wire the computers and PDC..Let us know what you decide to do, I wouldn't mind helping with another Hemi swap..It will be my third..

Or if the other truck has a 5.9 in it..360- That would also be a great swap..Just leave the motor and transmission attached in both vehicles when you pull them..The 4.7 Trans..won't bolt to the 360.-as someone else wrote. ^.But if your going to pull motors anyway, just leave the transmissions attached..

If it has a 318 in it don't bother..It's not worth swapping..
