Default alternator pulley

so the pulley on my alternator is extremely squeaky, annoying as hell. the local parts store doesnt have one and cant order it and i cant find one online either. so my question is can i buy just the pulley or do i need a whole new alternator?

Did you use a stethoscope to isolate the squeal? I've never had to replace an alternator pulley. It could be the idler pulley or tensioner. Those are both cheap and easy to get.

i know its not the tensioner pulley. i thought it was that at first and replaced it and the squeal was still there. i tried listening with a tube but all i can hear is wind from the fan. i do know that is coming from the passenger side though. and also if i spray the pulley on the alternator with some pb blaster the squeal stops for about 30 seconds

They're a huge PITA to install and when is easiest to do is take the belt off and remove the cables going to it of course, and take an air wrench with the size bit on it and undo it on top speed.

If you don't have an air wrench, you must lock up the pulley and then go thru the process of undoing the bolt.

i couldnt manage to get my air wrench in there. i tried by hand with a ratchet and socket while some pulled the belt in the other direction but i still pulled it towards me. how do i lock it up? and also, where can i get a new pulley?

Sorry hydra, had some jack in me, EDITED mean an air wrench LOL

Jmess, to lock it up I'd take the alternator off and put the pulley on a vice.
