Default Looking for replacement plastic fasteners

OK, time to re-install the left inner wheel lining on my 2003 D after completing some work on it recently, I figured I'd do a good thing and clean it up nice. It looked so good, I went ahead and pulled the lower plastic engine cover and the right side wheelwell and cleaned them up as well. All proud of my accomplishments, I took a ride to get a bunch of the black plastic rivets that hold them in place. Figured I'd start at the dealership. I mean, how expensive could little black plastic rivets be anyways?

They gave me a price of 6 bucks EACH!!!!

The guy behind the counter wasn't to amused with my "do they come with vaseline as well?" comment as I walked out empty handed.

Ideas on where to get these things at a halfway decent price before I start scouring the web?

Thanks!

Bob

You might try your local automotive glass installation shop. They might not have exactly what came out but they will have plastic rivets and other plastic-type clips. I used to work for a glass shop and the clips and rivets we had on hand came in really handy.Name: P3020035.jpg

Thanks for the tip. I'll look into them. The ones that come out are like a pop-rivet where the center pin pulls down and expands the back for a semi-permanent install. I was hoping to find exact replacements.

The cowl panel on the older model Ford Aerostars took those, maybe they will still have some. Good luck!

To get an exact replacement, go to the dealer and ask again but ask for the part number as well. Look up that part number on a site such as RockAuto, etc. and you should be able to find a bulk pack somewhere.

Ahhhh.... some sanity is restored in my world. Stopped in Fastenall a few minutes ago and found that they had what looked like the same fasteners for 9 bucks a box. I forgot to bring one with me today to match it up so i'll swing by tomorrow when I get a chance.

I feel guilty not spending the extra $135 at the dealer......

Don't worry, the guilt goes away after awhile...
