Yep. I have a similar problem on my 99 5.9 SLT (93 K). The ABS will engage at very slow speeds which increases the stopping distance. However the ABS light is not on. I had to unplug the wires from the ABS unit under the hood to disengage the ABS System. I remember reading somwhere that the ABS sensor on the front wheels could have accumulated a bit of rust and cleaning that should correct the problem. I've taken a look at the front wheel but could not see the sensor without removing the brakes (pads / Rotor). I had an earlier problem with the ABS light being on which was attributed to the rear ABS sensor, which I was able to change and that took care of the light. I gleaned that information from this site - invaluable information here. Thanks to all the Pros here!

It is either an open grounded sensor or a bad ABS Module.

When I slam on the brakes hard, the rear wheels always lockup while the fronts don't and the abs kicks in and says hey learn how to drive. So anyways consdering you just replaced your rotors they have more metal on them again which will make them a lot easier to lockup. If your rear has brake drag now with the new rotors, deffinetly get that adjusted as that will be your problem right there.

On another note, it could be your rear sensor too since you had the rear brakes all apart maybe it got dirty with a little grease on the sensor flywheel.

the rear abs sensor is in the differential, not at the wheels

Yes there is a speed sensor by the wheels but ABS sensor is on the diff.

So I have to open the differential and find the abs and check if it needs a replacement?

Ah yes yes that's right the VSS is the rear abs sensor on these trucks also, forgot about that, at least on my 98 D, not sure about the newer models if they added more. So your rear brakes are probably biting more then your front when you hit the brakes causing the rear tires to lockup, which is easy to do because the front is where all the weight is. I'd start looking at adjusting your rear brakes to better match the front first.

you dont have to open the differential, the sensor sits on top of it, so you can pull it out the top of the diff to replace it/clean it
