Transmission Problem
To check it properly get the vehicle up to running temperature, go on a little trek 3 or 4 miles and when you come back engage the parking brake and run the selector thru all the ranges (P, R, N, D, 3, 2, 1) making sure to stop in each range for a couple of seconds and back up to Neutral and check the transmission dip stick.
This is at least how I've always done it and I've always gotten a very accurate reading this way.

Thanks I will try that today. I always put it back on parking before checking the dip stick.

That's EXACTLY what I'm saying!.........It needs to be checked in the NEUTRAL position with the engine running and at full opetational temperature. The pump needs to be engaged and that will lower the level of the fluid in the pan that has emptied from the system. This brings the fluid to it's correct level. This is way it must be hot, engine running, and transmission in Neutral.
(d) If fluid is low, add only enough MoparATF+4 (<<<<<<I corrected the fluid type) to restore correct level. Do not overfill!

Transmission fluid level should be checked monthly
under normal operation. If the vehicle is used for
trailer towing or similar heavy load hauling, check
fluid level and condition weekly. Fluid level is
checked with the engine running at curb idle speed,
the transmission in NEUTRAL and the transmission
fluid at normal operating temperature.

temperature for accurate fluid level check. Drive
vehicle if necessary to bring fluid temperature up to
normal hot operating temperature of 82°C (180°F).
(2) Position vehicle on level surface.
(3) Start and run engine at curb idle speed.
(4) Apply parking brakes.
(5) Shift transmission momentarily into all gear
ranges. Then shift transmission back to Neutral.
(6) Clean top of filler tube and dipstick to keep
dirt from entering tube.
(7) Remove dipstick (Fig. 10) and check fluid level
as follows:
(a) Correct acceptable level is in crosshatch area.
(b) Correct maximum level is to MAX arrow
mark.
(c) Incorrect level is at or below MIN line.

CAUTION: Do not overfill the transmission. Overfilling
may cause leakage out the pump vent which
can be mistaken for a pump seal leak. Overfilling
will also cause fluid aeration and foaming as the
excess fluid is picked up and churned by the gear

Thanks for all of your help, I checked the fluid just like instructed & it was actually low. I added 3 quarts of ATF+4 yesterday & it has been shifting fine, only shifts hard when switched to reverse.
