after driving it a little longer, it still doing it but not as often. I will check fluid again. Do you recommend changing filter & fluid? I was told the transmission speed sensor could also be causing this, does that sound right?

I try to always change the filter when I change the fluid and yes I'd probably get some nice clean ATF +4 in the system just to make sure. I wouldn't think the speed sensor would cause it to throw a Gov pressure code because the speed sensor is linked in the ABS system to throw an ABS light.

Speed sensor will also affect shifting, but will usually throw a code. Causes late shifting and harsh engagement.

I just noticed it was leaking the Transmission Fluid yesterday, I am planning on changing the fluid along with filter this weekend & fixing the leak. Anyone know where it might be leaking from?

Your best bet is to crawl under the beast and have a look... It's not like it's a slammed honda civic or something... It would take 30 seconds to peek at the leak. Really it could be coming from anywhere - asking us is like asking a psychic!

Seriously though, it could be from the transmission cooler lines, or the transmission itself... Who knows?!

I was under mine today and noticed that I've got a small leak on the drivers side... the transmission pan gasket probably needs to be replaced. And by "small leak" I mean I mean small... It wasn't enough to cause concern, no dripping or anything like that, just a little damp down the side of the pan.

+1 rob, also never use any kind of transmission stop leak of any kind. I don't even know if they make them but that would cause major problems if they do and although it seems like an easy way out, it's not.

It leaks from the front by the transmission mount, I checked the fluid again & it looks like I put too much when I added the 3 quarts. I will be changing the fluid so that I can get the correct amount in the transmission but also looking to change the solenoid & sensor. I read on here that someone found them both for about $110? does anyone know where I can find them for that price? Autozone has the solenoid for $120.

thanks

*I just found Transmissionpartsusa website which offers the solenoid & sensor for $100 shipped. Can anyone tell me what type of Transmission my 1999 Dodge Durango SLT 2WD has.

Thanks

I will be changing my Transmission Fluid this weekend & would like to know how many quarts to buy, I read that you need 10, but also saw 4!

Can anyone tell me how many quarts I will need if I will be doing a simple fluid/filter change?

Thanks

4 is probably close but I'd buy 6 just to be safe.
When I do my filter and band adjustments I buy 6.

edit. Put 4 in and warm up the transmission and check the fluid.

You should have the 46RE transmission.

Pick up at least 6-8 quarts for a simple trans fluid filter change. If you drop the valve body I would get at 8 for sure.

There is also band adjustments in that transmission, if you are uncomfortable adjusting the trans you can take your fluid/filter to a shop and have them do it for you for labor costs. You need to ensure they use YOUR fluid ATF+4, I like Valvoline Fully Synthetic in the blue bottle.
