98 durango oil change
Castrol is another high quality oil. Quaker State always seemed to be the cheaper one to me.
What about Penzoil anyone? I've personally never tried it but I heard a mix of opinions on it, it seems to be priced a little on the lower end though.

Would I be okay to switch to FS? I want to do as much as I can to keep my D running perfect. It has 97,000 on it now and the guy I got it from (original owner) always used Valvoline and had the same well known shop do it for the life of the vehicle. Safe to switch?
Seriously??? Every time someone hears a story about an abused motor, they start talking **** about how sludge is a known problem. Total BS! If you treat your vehicle like ****, that's what it will become. Don't make blanket statements like that. There are too many people that will believe it because "someone said so." I really thought you were above that.
Yep agreed samnbensdad. My Durango just got torn down and everything looked brand spanking new as the day I bought it and I've run Mobil 1 my entire life. There was not a but of sign of sludge and not a sign of ever having sludge and looked awesome. I agree with the statement it's all about how you treat the engine.
I am however doing research and thinking about switching to Royal Purple for my rear-end and motor oil/filter to help with my highly improved performance upgrades on the engine. I've heard great things on Royal Purple.

Well I've never used penzoil because I've heard more bad than good about it so I was just seeing what other people here think.
The sludge problem was a big issue the day I bought the car, the previous owner just got the cheap oil change specials and the engine (especially the oil pickup screen) accumulated a bunch of oil sludge. I cleaned it out pretty good by running a can of seafoam through the crankcase twice with oil changes in between and you wouldn't believe the mess that came out. It was sold to me with a known problem of occasionaly loosing oil pressure so I researched the problem on the mangum engines and the most common cause was a grimey crankcase so I said easy enough to fix and bought it.
If you run synthetic oil for the engine's entire life and do your oil changes every 3k miles you'll certainly have a clean engine for sure. But when you start streatching oil change intervals and running cheap dino oils like the pervious owner did, it certainly does show.

Also, regarding Penzoil, I've never had any customer have a problem with it and a bit of useless information but at my dealership we actually use both Dino and Synthetic Penzoil oils for any and all engine oil changes, unless the customer asks for Mobil 1 FS.
Everyone also makes it sound like fixes everything and performs miracles. Basically it's nothing more than a fuel system cleaning additive. But it can also be used for other things like if added to your crankcase it will break down the oil sludge stuck inside, but only run it in there for about 100-200 miles then get an oil change because it thins down the oil a lot. If added to your fuel tank it's nothing more than a fuel additive that cleans out your fuel system and if sucked up by a vaccum hose into your engine it cleans all (well most) of the carbon build up in your intake and on your valves. It also has a little lubercant added into it too.
It's really probably over-hyped about, but don't get me wrong it's good stuff and works great.
