Default Replaced Steering box, now pulls to right

I had the common problem of steering play. Installed a new, not rebuilt gear box and the play is gone. Steers like new. Now I have a pretty good pull to the right. I had it aligned after the box install hoping that would solve the pull but no luck. Any ideas?
Thanks

Now that's a hard one!

It makes absolutely no sense concitering the steering box doesn't change the measurements between wheels! It can only change the pitman arm position, but again that doesn't change the thrust angle.

The only thing I can come up with is a bad steering box?

Could it be the pitman arm itself? I had to replace this also.

+1

Also look over your ball joints good & make sure they aren't bad as well. Mine was drifting all over the place before I changed them out, and they didn't look / feel too terribly worn either.

Thanks all, I will check with the alignment shop and see if they can look into it. My ball joints are still good, but I need to replace the boots.

If the boots are torn then there's most likely grit in the joint as well. You're better off replacing them while it's apart as you have to tear it apart the same amount anyways.

True, but if the ball joints need to be replaced it'll need another alignment anyways. FWIW, Before I redid my front end I had it aligned 2x and still experienced a bad ride, bad tire wear, and "mystery noises" while driving. Now it's a completely different animal.... smooth, quiet, and a "new car" feel. I don't think it was any one part that was completely worn out, it was the combination of normal wear on all of the parts.

Are the 2WD factory joints a no grease style as well? If so, any grease that was in them is now gone / contaminated anyways. Replace 'em.

All that being said, I'd still bring it back to the alignment shop first and have them check their work. I'm surprised they aligned it after seeing ripped BJ boots.
