Default Brake System Overhaul

I've been experiencing a hard brake peddle for some time now and decided do an overhaul. During panic stops, the she slows down and takes a while to stop. Everything appears to be working properly and my research points to the power booster. So I plan on changing the booster, the master cylinder, the rear wheel cylinders and the brake line that goes from the front to the back due to rust. I'll also be upgrading to a better brake fluid as well and all the parts will be purchased from Rockauto except the fluid. If anyone has advice or tips it'll be appreciated.

I would say start with the brake booster first and foremost because usually a hard brake pedal leads to the booster, and if the pedal gets a spongy feel to it, it's usually a master cylinder. Also, what do you mean you'll be upgrading to a better brake fluid? Do you mean like a synthetic DOT3 because I wouldn't advise straying too far away from DOT3 brake fluid (for instance DOT5 "Long Life Silicone Brake Fluid").

Why? If you are going in with all brand new stuff/hardware and need/want a new fluid... I strongly suggest Motul 5.1

Never heard of it Indy, but it sure looks great! http://www.motul.fr/us/en-US/products/77

I only wish I could read the MSDS sheets?

LOL HS. Try the United States site instead of the French site.

When I replaced all my setup, that is the fluid I went with. Race proven, superior to DOT 3 & 4.
Just remember, you want 5.1.... not 5. They are not the same. The ".1" is backwards compatible with 3 & 4. Straight 5 is NOT.

The booster came today, the other items won't arrive until the end of next week. They were shipped from a different warehouse, here's some pics for your enjoyment;

I need to change the rear brake line and I'm thinking about bending my own. Does anyone know the diameter of the brake line, I don"t have a measuring tool.

If you look at the link it was the same......LOL

What I was talking about is the MSDS sheet was in French, however I did finally find it in English. http://www.quickfds.com/cmt_bin/wfds...CPdf=&Session= In it states:

100% synthetic fluid, polyglycol bases
Do not mix with silicone (DOT 5 silicone base) or mineral base fluids (LHM).
Maximum Storage: 24 Months

So this means our DOT3 fluids are covered like you said. I did find a fluke in their sheet though, Polyglycol Base oils are only good to -30F and up whereas they state -40F and up so I wonder how they can claim that? I have also seen claims of others like SynLube stating -65F. Also just like regular brake fluids, Polyglycol is incompatible with Petroleum's just like regular DOT3.

Very interesting fluid.

I have heard that some German vehicles ABS brake components don't like it though and they use the Fully Synthetic Valvoline DOT3 or DOT4.

No. Link wasn't the same. You had the .fr and I had the .com. You were on the French site thus the French info.

"you heard" what exactly? 3 days ago you had never even heard of Motul at all. In the end, 5.1 is the replacement standard for 3 & 4 thus over time all manufactures are headed that way.
