Sorry about the wait, family emergency going on. I ordered new shocks (rancho rs5000) for the rear, I think I will open up the cover when I get them/put them in.
I have one quick question, I took 2 mins and pulled the fill plug. The fluid was dark, like it was used but had a greenish color to it, is this the friction modifier? I know gear lube is an amber color, and I have seen a lot of used stuff to but none like this. This my first time dealing with an lsd.
no... if i remember correctly the friction modifier looked clear... but then again i was upsidedown in the dark... might have had a green tinge... not sure..
This is more than a tinge of green, it is enough to give the oil a darker color. Forgot to mention it had some gray to, my dad says it can be from water. That wouldn't be a shock with all the truck has been through.
ok... well with what you say the fluid looks like you at least need to change the fluid and add a modifier... its not good if there's water in there... will cause the gears to deteriorate faster and cause dammage...
75w-140 synthetic is used in heavily used rear axles of the Ram's so it should be ok either way considering it would just have more viscosity at the high end of the spectrum. So what I'm saying is, if you have it on hand then you could use it, but I wouldn't go buying it.
