Default Just went fully synthetic!

So I just changed out with a full synthetic oil. I wanted to know how long I should drive on t before I should change again, with t being the first batch of synthetic. I had planned to do about 5k miles each change.

What lubricants did you change out? And what exact lubricants did you use?

sounds like he did engine oil, 5k miles should be fine for the change interval

Yea 5,000 mile intervals should be great.

Now I use Mobil One FS and pull it every 5k regardless if I tow or city drive. Now if your up on the freeway a lot with no stop and go then you could go up to 7,500 but I like the reassurance of being having good lubricant in there.

But brand names have different base oils and therefore not all brands are the same. There are also blends and others. This is why I asked the "exact" brand and type used.

I don't remember the brand right off, but my d has around 114k on it. I think it is mobil1 with a Fram Xtended guard filter good for up to 10k miles.

I've been told by some that once you get close to or over the 100k mile mark its almost pointless to go over to synthetic?

Is that true? I was thinking about using synthetic oil too. I'm at roughly 82k miles now.

where did you hear that josh?(and do you really believe everything that you hear??? just asking bc sometimes it seems like you do with some of the stuff you come up with)

its never a bad thing to switch over to synthetic oils, however some older engines, especially ones which are poorly maintained will develop leaks as the better detergents in the synthetic oil break down any build up in the engine, and will also seep through smaller openings than regular dino oil

Thats a little harsh shrp, but i take just about any thought into consideration. If an Explanation sounds plausible to me than i consider that thought before i do anything.

Majority of things I hear are from friends or other guys i know. Mostly with older used cars which can go along with the second part of what you said about poorly maintained cars. But none the less I'm still down in the ranks as a rookie when it comes to car unfortunately and I dont know enough to rule out peoples opinions.

Sorry for the rant. lol

Does anyone have a particular brand of synthetic they like or have heard good things about? I know Hydra said Mobil1 any thoughts on penzoil or amsoil? Figured this might be a good thread to ask that question?

I'm broke most of the time thats why i use store brand motor oil. And i want my Durango to last me as long as possible because we got a lot of guys around here who question the quality of a dodge.
