Default I am so new to this

Hi, I am tressa5. I am so new to this that I am having difficulties figuring out how to post stuff and see replies. I have a 2000 Dodge Durango that I bought brand new with the 15 miles on it that I put there during the test drive. It now has 335,000 miles and the motor runs great. It has never leaked any fluid to this day. I have done pretty good with the maintenance requirements. BUT, now I am having trouble with it and need help.

Hope this is where I answer your question. 4x4, 4.7. It will not idle correctly. It starts right up and with AC on seems to idle fine. Turn AC off and motor idle surges but doesn't die. While I am driving at any speed, when I decompress the accelerator it dies. I have replaced spark plugs with platinum which I have always used with a problem, also MAP, TPS, IAC, and ECM, all new. Whats next? It still does not leak anything. I can smell gas a lot like its running rich. It also used to get 14 mpg and is now 11mpg.

When you replaced the plugs, did you use platinum again? If so, remove them and install Champion copper core and gap at 0.040. If you do a search, you will find tons of members with anti-platinum testimonies.
If you are running rich, you may have a faulty pre CAT O2 sensor.

Yes, I used platinum again. Just so I get all the info to ya: battery is good, pvc valve new, reset computer several times and it will not start for several cranks, like 20-30 times before it will turn over, air filter good, checked vac lines. I did not use dealer sensors for any of the above. I have done several searches on here which has lead to all these replacements thus far. Also I looked for link to thoroughly clean throttle body and could not find it.

+1 samnbensdad, this definitely sounds like a precat O2 sensor.
Here the link to cleaning the tb http://www.mediafire.com/?k0742k5tvj1dqxh or you can find it stickied at the top of the 1st gen durango section under "Do It Yourself (top questions and answers)". Hope this helps

Just for giggles I want to ask what the fuel pressure should be in idle and in park. I will replace pre-cat sensor and get back here with results.

Get rid of the platinum plugs. They wreak havoc on these engines. If you don't believe me, just do a search.
Buy the O2 sensor from a dealership. Other brands will cause problems.
How do you know the battery is good? Is it more than 4 years old?
