Default Vehicle Speed Sensor Help

Hey All,

I'll try to make a long story short. Replaced the PCM in my wife's "Rango ('99 SLT, 4X4, 5.9L, Auto). PCM seems to be OK, but after replacement the "ABS" and "Brake" lights are now on.

After using the search function I found a bunch of threads about the vehicle speed sensor causing the "brake light" issue, so I set out to replace it. Went to Auto Zone and got a new one. Well, the sensor location I've been told is at the top of the rear diff, but the sensor that's there looks totally different than the VSS I bought. The one I bought looks like a pipe plug with a plug on one side, it screws down into a hole (it looks like somewhere near the trans). Is the sensor on the diff something different? Do I replace the one I bought or do I have the wrong sensor?

Any guidance would be GREATLY appreciated.

Here is a DIY I made to replace the sensor and yours is the same. It is called the ABS Speed Sensor: https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen...ensor-diy.html

I was stuck 100 miles from home and in a hurry, didn't really care for that matter. But I decided to do a DIY while I was rebuilding the differential. I used the top hole to fill the diff and that is the reason for the spilled lubricant. It was quick decision and I didn't have my camera so I had to do what I could at the time. I was sober when I did that and that could explain it as well.......LOL

If you notice I'm laying on the ground under my truck because my spare tire is on the top of the picture. From the look of that camera it was in focus. Later I found out that the owner (family) had manipulated the camera settings to focus to his eyes, and then the picture would turn out the way he used the camera. I found this out actually just the other day when on vacation as I was trying to get pictures of the kids on the water behind the boat.

I was trying to shoot the kids as we were towing them, I couldn't focus it useing the zoom feature because he had locked it out. I had taken about 5-6 shoots and couldn't figure it out. I got frustrated and grabbed my phone camera and shoot em......LOL.....I asked him but he didn't' say anything, I put 2 and 2 together, when he went to take a picture and had to move to a perfect spot and that was the nail in the coffin.

Too bad that fridge doesn't have beer, but it had some pop and water.
