Default Cold Air Intake... Yes or No?

I've got a 02 Durango R/T with 70k on it and was wondering if its a good idea to go with a K&N CAI or just a K&N drop in filter. CAI is $220 on Amazon and drop in is $40. I want to know if the CAI is worth it. I've heard they sound really good. Is that true? Is it ok to have a CAI in the winter? And I've also heard the CAI can mess up the engine and cause it to run lean if you don't get it tuned but I'm not sure about that... Thanks guys in advance!

I would go with the cold air intake over the restrictive filter,

For those of the member that have CAI, How much in fuel mileage or horsepower do you gain?

Home brew cold air in the DIY section, drop in k&n filter with $20 of tubing. $60 for an actual cold air intake and better flowing.

I would go with a drop in and a Home Brew CAI. Look in here down just a couple from the top for your answer: https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen...wers-faqs.html

If you do a K&N filter drop in, which is just a replacement of the air filter, and pipe in true cold air with a home brew style intake it makes the engine a lot more responsive, less throttle for the same power, cooler motor, and slight forced induction.

As for horse power numbers, well I don't know cause you would have to dino with piped in air to test, but there is a good noticeable overall difference all for about $60 bucks and a little time. But you have to use a oil type air filter like a K&N, you cannot use anything else. I gained about 1-2 mpg's from the old 13 hwy to the 15 mark. Most people notice a 1-2 MPG increase after installing a 180 degree T-stat as well and a clean tune up and clean TB.

Thank you, I ask because all my cars and still have the factory air cleaner. And I don't think a CAI would would work on my D50, Because of the Mass air flow sensor.

i personally like the knn one. i know its not a "true" cai but i get much better throttle response and it added about 2 mpg to my numbers.

Well when you look at our intake the most restriction is at that little tube going into the fender and the air hat. So just by taking off that little tube you should see an increase.
