Do the general purpose steering fluids at AutoZone work, like this Prestone Power Steering Fluid? Probably that or the AutoZone brand is what's in there now.
Thanks for the help!
No, they are all different, but the Red and ATF+4 are very close with ATF+4 the better. So, if your truck uses Red then it's ok to run ATF+4.

Background:
See at first they used a Brown fluid and only Brown can use Brown, then they went to a regular Red fluid. There was nothing special about the Red as it was plain old regular "off the shelf" power steering fluid. Then they went to ATF+4 because it has all the properties and additives plus it was even better! So the Red and the ATF+4 all went to ATF+4.

The Brown was discontinued from use in 1998 or 1999 but it is not known because of build dates and parts left over before the change. Thats why the VIN# is so important. Only a dealer can tell you what exact fluid the 1998-1999 needs to be in that particular system.

So, if you use Red or ATF+4 then use ATF+4, but if you use Brown you have to go to the dealer because that is the only place you can buy Brown that I know of.
