Yes....it may lead to you getting screwed out of a couple of grand. If the pump isn't working, the transmission isn't either.

Get a small gauge shotgun (.410 or 20) then go back to that garage and shoot the lying thief that told you this, in the genitals. That way he'll be too worried about other things to consider trying to lie and cheat someone.

You should PM me his name and the phone number of the shop where he's at. I want to get this guy to tell me the same lies he told you.

So if the pump isn't working I was thinking wouldn't the transmisson be acting up.and then where would all the fluid be going if it wasn't working... I have been driving like this for awhile.. so I may get a 2nd opinion..if anyone else have ever had this happen to them can you give me some symptoms and ...

No, you're not quite understanding the situation here, I think....if the pump isn't working, the transmission won't drive, AT ALL. Period. The pump runs the transmission, without it, there is no transmission. There are no "symptoms" of a bad pump. The only symptom would be that your vehicle goes nowhere when you put it in drive and give it gas.

For a mechanic to tell you that your pump is bad, after you drove the vehicle into the shop (and back out again), is nothing less than attempt to rob you. ANY mechanic would know better than this, or he isn't a mechanic at all. You'd be better off having a 3rd grader work on your vehicle. At least he wouldn't be trying to get you to agree to a couple of grand in "repair" fees right off the bat.

If you want your tranny serviced, take it somewhere else, that shop will, I PROMISE YOU, damage something intentionally once they get the pan off in an attempt to get into your pocket, and it will be a nightmare from beginning to end.

Also, don't go to another shop and ask them "what's wrong with my Durango"....just tell them you want the tranny fluid and filter replaced, and get a solid quote before you have it done. If they ask about any "problems", tell them it runs and drives perfectly and this is just preventative maintenance. Otherwise you could end up giving another crook the chance to rob you like the first one attempted to do.

If I had to take a "guess", I'd say that as many as 75% of all mechanic shops will rob you blind if they have an opportunity to do so. Don't give them the opportunity.

1) today is your lucky day, transmission flushes are VERY BAD for your transmission, good thing they didnt do it, dont let anyone ever talk you into one again!!!!!!!

+100000000 this guy is a thief, if you the truck is driving the pump is working, as stated take it to a shop and ask for a fluid and filter change, and a band adjustment (they should do this all together as standard procedure, but sometimes they dont)

p.s if you have the 4.7l engine there are no bands to adjust, if you have the 5.2 or 5.9 the band adjustment is very important.

If you have a 3.9, 5.2 or 5.9 the 42's, and 46re's don't pump much in park...which is also why you have to check the fluid in neutral. They are pretty much a 904 or 727 with an overdrive added. They always had to be checked in neutral also. So don't worry about it that is normal not to have pressure in park.

Let me ask you, did you drive the durango there to have the transmission flushed? If you did. The pump is working fine. What size motor do you have?

as a response to the one who said that a transmission flush is really bad to do, and to never do them, first off, warranty states they must be done, second, the fluid breaks down same as engine oil. it does need to b changed periodically. I have got over 20 years experience as a fluid expert, as well as a mechanic. also keep in mind, most mechanics are not fluid experts, they are repair experts. if you want to spend more on fuel, and eventually repairs, then listen to the mechanic that tells you not to flush your transmission. otherwise, flush every 48000 to 80000 kms and you may save yourself $$ down the road.

a transmission fluid CHANGE is a very necessary maintance item, however a transmission FLUSH is a very good way to ruin your transmission, for a few reasons
1) chemical cleaners are used, these clean out and build up, but they also attack the rubber seals in the trans and the rubber lines
2) high pressure, this could very easily blow out the seals and cause leaks and low pressure in the trans during operation which leads to all sorts of shifting problems
3) i nowhere in my owners manual does it recommend a transmission FLUSH, hell it suggests changing the trans fluid ever 100k miles.

now explain to me again why a flush is necessary??
