well my guess is that you had a 44re unless you had the tow package, then you'd have a 46re. anyway either of those two will bolt up and should work. I know there are many others that will bolt up but I'm not sure what would actually work and what wouldn't. master tech should be able to answer any specifics

the 5.2 came with the 44re, and the dakota and durango parts are interchangeable, im not sure about the rams, but make sure the driveline matches up to simplify the swap.

I believe up to 98 v8 grand cherokees also had the same transmission, but as shrp said make sure everything matches up before you try to install. personally, I'd just get one off another durango or a dakota to be sure things will go together more easily

Default 99 Durango help

Thanks a lot guys i appreciate halls input. I'm taking ownership of my ex's Durango that I fell in love with when she bought it new. It drives like like a hotrod with the comfort of a caddy. Projected upgrades off the muscle. K&N cold. air intake, throttle body spacer,Flowmaster series 65 exhaust, hypertech hyperpac programmer. New tierods, bushings shocks and wheels. The engines getting a message with update to follow. My ex never let do anything to it and she maintained it well. Other than a fubared drivers seat the interior is immaculent. Again guys thanks for the input. Any suggestions are welcome. When I finger out how to post pics will do. Hope your turkey day went well!!!!

Do your research first (starting with this site) before you waste your money on things like throttle body spacers and sub-par tuners...

You can use a 1997-1999 Dakota, or a 1998-1999 Durango and there shouldn't be any catch. Jeep is different as well as the Ram, so I would stick with what works.
