Cant figure out brakes...
So I have been having weird problems with the brakes lately...
Before I bought it 3 months ago it had new brakes in the front, (rotors, pads, calipers) Then about 3 weeks ago it snowed and all of a sudden as I was crawling to a stop the D jurked and the brakes locked enough to skid the tires alittle. So I took it in to les swab and had them lift it up and pull the wheels off...Fronts were at 95%! Great I already knew they were new but how are the backs? 60%...ok, any damage or oil in there that would make it lock up? No, actually the drum looks brand new and all the springs have been replaced recently...Super!
So I had them clean it up, didn't do it for awhile...Then last night it did it to me when I was going 5mph and tried to stop. Jurked enough to give my fiance wiplash!
I have been noticing some squeeks and what not when braking, but this only happens when I leave the D out side for more then 2 or so hours. (I normally park in a heated garage during work and at night when I am home).
Any ideas? What could be the problem?
I have thought of:
Cheap pads causing excessive dust?
Just cold and thats what happens?
Air in the lines?

Could be the brake pad slides on the knuckle. If you didn't grind them flat before installing the new pads then the arms of the pads get stuck in the groves and lock it up. After you grind them you lubricate the slides with brake grease as well as the bolt slides.
Other problem it could be is a bad rubber brake line on that side or the other side, in fact if I replace one side I just replace the other side as well.
It bothers me that the rear brakes were slightly worn, now that's ok, but not my repertoire. Anyway in the 1998-1999 I found a slight issue with the rear brake hardware. The little brass studs that hold the adjusters are not fitted well and can slightly rock. This makes the adjusters not work correctly and so the brakes are not brought to their closest position as designed. The fix is to replace the adjuster hardware (you can find a kit at NAPA) and you can also replace the springs if needed as well. https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen...37-brakes.html

I wish I had done the brakes myself now...would have gotten better pads.
But when I bought the D the dealership had put new brakes in the front since they were warpped(sp?) so bad.
I am taking it back to the dealership and having them scan it for me some time soon. Hopefully it is something simple, other wise I am just going to wait till later to fix it...BTW I dont have any lights on, so I thought if the abs was out wouldn't the light alluminate?

yea that is what I thought...IDK quite yet. I am running different things to see what is going on. Based on what has been going on, and now that I busted the brake cleaner out and cleaned the front brakes up. It hasn't happend and it brakes better...I am still looking into different things though. Mabey this is the perfect time to upgrade to stainless steel brake lines!
