Default Plenum Gasket

ok guys! It is time!

This upcoming weekend (yes I know it is Christmas) I will be replacing my plenum gasket!

I have started using a good amount of oil all of a sudden, so I am just going to pull it apart and see if maybe it is the issue.

I will use the good plan of taking pictures while I tear down and looking at them putting them together.

Now the parts, do I need the whole intake manifold gasket set?

Or do I need Upper intake gasket set (plenum gasket)

Other than that, anything I should know? When I pull the A/C lines off of the Compressor, am I going to need to cap the lines? Or will they not spray? How about the fuel lines? Will they spray? Any heads up would be appreciated. Have done larger jobs like this, but usually not alone lol. Thanks Guys!!

You'll need the whole intake gasket set plus a bypass hose, new stat plus gasket, TB gasket, tube of black RTV. Do not disconnect the AC lines or the gas line. Remove the 4 bolts holding on the AC compressor and the lines will flex enough to lay it over to the passenger side out of the way. Unbolt the fuel rail, pop the injectors out of the intake and lay it over to the drivers side out of the way. I'd recommend new injector seals on the intake end before replacing.

Another little tip...start spraying the 4 corner bolts on the intake with PB Blaster now. Reason being is they do not seat in the heads and the threads on the end are exposed to the elements and have a tendency to corrode and rust. May save you a broken bolt and a lot of cussing later on.

Normally the intake bolts are in pretty bad shape when removed so I suggest picking up a new set at the dealers for about $15.

GOOD LUCK!!!!

while you have the intake manifold off you could do the kegger mod too. More power =

Do you have an aluminum belly pan to replace the stamped stock steel pan?

If not, I highly recommend you sandwich the belly pan gasket between 2 thin layers of high temp red RTV. Otherwise it will be to do over again later on.

ok, I do not have the aluminum set for the plenum gasket. So I will use the Red RTV High Temp.

Question is, whats the blak RTV for? The thermostat correct?

Definitely going to change th Injector seals while I have the injectors out, really good idea! Anything else I should look closely at while I have the intake off?

The black RTV is for the 4 corners where the rubber end gaskets meet the side gaskets on the intake manifold. Place a blob about he size of the end of your index finger and tall enough to be above the rubber gasket.

I've never use RTV on the stat gasket and have never had a leak but a thin coat certainly will not hurt either.

You'll also need to do an oil and filter change after the install and before starting the engine because no matter how careful you are some coolant is going to make it's way into the oil pan.

A shop vac is also a good item to have handy to make cleaning up the scraped off gasket material that gets in the lifter valley. Be sure to stuff rags or paper into the head ports to keep it out of there also.
