Question Question about 4wd lights on dash

This might be a stupid question... but it's one of those little things.

I have a 99 with the 2wd/4wdPT/4wdFT/4L option.

Here's the lights that show up in the respective positions

2wd - no lights
4wdPT -4 wheel Part Time
4wdFT -4 wheel Full Time
4L - 4 Wheel PART time (This is the one I am questioning..)

I would think 4L should show as 4 Wheel Full time??

nope 4L is a part time gear, the front and rear drive shafts are locked together, and the gearing is reduced, 4L gives you a top speed of like 35 or 40 in OD, and is designed to give you more power at low speeds in low traction situations (example: pulling a boat up a slipery boat launch)

you should NOT be driving in 4L unless you are in one of those high power low speed, low traction situations.

+1 on that...
The front and rear wheels also turn at different speeds. If you try to drive on dry roads with it on you will blow the TC.

Thanks for the clarification, and no, I wasn't even thinking of 4L on a dry pavement. I used it the other day when I cut a tree down and had to drag the trunk through a field that had loose soil... 4L was perfect for it.

Heck yeah! Started in 2wd until the rear tires started to spin, so I just stuck it in 4L and it pulled it with no problems at all. I was actually very impressed.

The 4wd lights are the only ones I want to see on my dash.. I was tired of the ABS/Brake lights, and I despise the low fuel light. LOL.

i despise all dashboard lights (i dont have 4x4 lights in the instrument cluster, i have them on the electronic switch) however i avoid the low fuel light by filling up when it hits 1/4 tank left.

I don't think my durango has seen 1/4 tank since I bought it lol. I feel like I'm gonna run outta gas if it even gets close to 1/4 tank
