CB whip or antenna?

Personally I think they look like rubbish mounted on the fender.
I made a custom bracket to hold my 4ft Firestik behind the drivers side tail light. I believe Firestik sells a similar bracket setup.
Here is the only pic I have of it, since I remove it for the winter (don't use the CB in the winter) but you can see where it's mounted. It's bolted inbetween the hatch and tail light and is bent 90* to make it located far enough over that when opening the hatch it doesn't hit, and no visible hardware when the hatch is closed.

A good ground is a must for a CB. I personaly have never had to ground my antenna... Do you have an SWR meter to check your SWR's?
General rules to follow, a good ground for the radio, a decent aftermarket mic., an external speaker, an SWR meter, and NOT CHEAP co-ax.... Also for best performance your antenna (and ONLY ONE antenna in a system) should be centered on the vehicle for best performance, and dont exclusively use the SWR meter on the radio....
I also have my radio tuned, and run a higher amperage fuse, i think 5 amp Vs. 2 or 3 amp.
just my 2 cents worth from what i have learned from years of truck driving. Hope this helps
