Blends are nothing but conventional oils.

All I use is Mobil One Fully Synthetics, and right now my truck has like 149k.

It will take a couple of months I have 5k on it now, I may change it at 7k if I have to pull a trailer back from montana this spring through the mountains to help my aunt and uncle move back.

Puralator is good, I've heard good things about the k&n filters to.

Still using a fully synthetic is better than the blends and mobile 1 is best for the money for sure.

Ok All... The Results are in for this new Durango owner.

Mobile 1 EP oil for all 3 vehicles 5w30 across the board

I have to use the factory filter on the new Hyundai so that was solved for me.

I read up reviews for the purolator PureONE, NAPA Gold and K&N and think I will give the NAPA Gold first crack. I am able to buy both K&N and NAPA Golds at work with a nice discount (Work for Balkamp) so i'll try the "In House" brands first. According to the info I gathered from comparing the 3 filters, each received good reviews.

Last and final question I have is about oil change frequency. Like I said in my original rant, I am/was an avid Valvoline conventional user and always ran the 3000 mile change routine. Now that I will be switching to the Mobil 1, How many miles should I go between changes? I see most people talk somewhere around the 5000 mile mark but is this wise on 138000 and 160000 vehicles?

I service my own vehicles and have for years but this night is making me feel like i need to go back to highschool Voc automechanics 101....I Feel so NoOb.

That's why were here is for advice, 4500-5k you should be fine. Lots of heavy towing, idling, and high dust conditions cut it back 500miles.

Thanks Greatly Adukart and All!

No Off roading or routine towing for me. The Durango is going to be used primarily as a backup vehicle and for winter driving when the road conditions make having 4x4 a luxury. Like tonight, its been freezing rain here for the last 5 hours and has now turned to sleet. I'm betting my wife won't wan't to drive her new car in about 3 hours when she gets up to go to work. I just may get the chance to try the 4x4 luxury today ...YAY...UUGH.

In your case, take the winter as a set back on the miles between changes as well because its always a smart idea to warm your car up. That also takes its toll on the oil.

otgarza, it is actually NOT a smart idea to warm modern gasoline engines up, this increases wear, reduces efficiency and gains you nothing except a warm interior. (and is not necessary since the computer controls fuel trim)

Actually Mobil 1 filters and K&N filters are exactly the same except for that little nut on top of the filter. Plus you can buy mobil 1 filters almost anywhere...Royal Purple also sells very good filters to

I use Mobil One Fully Synthetic High Mileage 10W-30. With the Fully Synthetic whether (High Mileage or regular), you can change your oil at 5000 miles for towing, dust driving, and including stop and go traffic (what they call severe duty), or 7500 miles for Highway mileage (Standard Duty) and you are PLENTY safe.

Now I change mine out at 5000 regardless in my Ram and my Taurus, and if I don't hit 5000 mileage in a year I still change the oil annually. What I do is fill out a windshield sticker (Mobil...LOL) and put the date I did the change and the mileage to be re-serviced at. If I reach 1 year or mileage I dump the oil, but I also know if I go over that mileage I'm still fine. It's like having a back up plan!

If you go to Wal-Mart you can get a 5qt container of Mobil One FS for about $25 bucks and I also use a Bosch filter in the black box. Bosch makes a great filter for an even better price. All in all I spend $30 bucks or close to it depending on oil prices.

Here is some info for you to study on filters: www.minimopar.knizefamily.net/oilfilters/index.html
