Choices are Plain (Dino), Virgin (Blend), or Extra Virgin (Syn). Lemme know which works best in case M1 doesn't cut it.

I'm Thinking Extra Vigin... Cost is comparable!

Well, I got one vehicle into the Mobil1 today. (PAINFULLY). I usually change my oil myself but its to cold and Icy out in the driveway to want to do it myself.... soooo I went to walmart...

Man there shop guys SuCk!!!!!

I tell the guy I want Mobil1 Extended Performance oil and to use the oil filter I put on the dash. They write up the ticket and i'm off to surf China Goods for an hour and a half(...grrrr...) while they get to my car. I come back when paged and started to pay the man, then noticed the ticket says 4qts Mobil1 syn 5W30 and Filter. I ask the cashier if I got a discount for bringing my own filter and they say they didn't know I brought my own. (WTF..GRRR) Sure enough, my filter is laying in the seat. Ok, no real big deal, The guy says he'll pull the car back in, swap the filter and top off the oil.. Wait a little longer, guy pulls in car and takes the filter off. He walks back in the store and goes to the shelf and grabs a bottle of Mobil1 5W30....(Umm That's not the Extended Performance I asked for) I get the deer in the headlights look from the guy...WTFYSFM...ARRGGGG (Last part abbreviated for the kids) Another hour wait while they drain the oil and put the correct oil in the car.Total time to get an Oil Change, 2 hours 45 minutes. Total bill 54.98 with a 2.09 discount for bringing my own filter. Some numbnut saying "Sorry bout your wait dude, See ya next time". PRICELESS. I couldn't help myself, I responded "sure thing, hold your beath till i get back"

Sorry about the pain my friend. I never go to walmart anymore. Bought a tire from them in an emergency situation, and had them change it. THEY LIFTED THE TRUCK BY THE GAS TANK! Made them buy a new gas tank and to have it install by a PROFESSIONAL SHOP. Since then, never never again, I take my truck to ONE local guy, and thats only in emergencies now

Walmart and sears two places that are forbidden to go to in my opinion. Dont trust them with anything...just my tire balancing and rotation at sears...but even then they do a crappy job at that. Next time i get an alignment i am going somewhere else cuz i got shafted at sears.

Damn, good one Turbo...

As for the D, I have an idea I want to throw out about oil change intervals.
Since this will be a non daily driver and I am thinking miles will accumulate a little slower because of this, Do you all think I could run the normal service interval of 7500 miles or once every 12months which ever occurs first using the M1 EP 5W30?

This way, I drive 3750 miles, which is the "severe" interval change point, and do a filter swap and top off with a fresh quart. Then drive another 3750 and change the oil and filter giving me 7500 miles between oil changes.

Example:
140000 Oil and Filter
143750 Filter Only - Top Off
147500 Oil and Filter
151250 Filter Only - Top Off
15000 Oil and Filter

Heck, I'd like to do this with all 3 cars.
What ya think?

The OCD in me says 3,000 miles or 50 hours of use, whichever comes first.

However in that non daily driver. changing filter every 3750 wouldn't be bad as long as you don't do severe driving.

I agree, you should change the filter somewhere around 3000 miles but it shouldnt exceed the 3500-3750 mark since it really isnt a daily driver. As for the other vehicles id stick to the 3000 mark change especially if they are driven more often than the durango.

honestly, even with my OCD 3000 mile changes seems to be too frequent, especially with modern oils. I run 5k mile changes in my truck (which is still less than what dodge recommends in the owners manual iirc) using dino oil, and my dad has run the same on all of his cars/trucks for the last 22 years (that i know of, im sure he has been doing it longer than i have been alive).

so in answer to your question, i think doing 7500 miles changes in a lightly used non daily driver would be fine as long as you dont run the filter longer than its recommended life.

Ok, I guess 3750/7500 on all 3 is not such a great Idea.

I'll stick with the 5000 mile change on the new Hyundai Accent
(Owners Manual Interval is 7500 so I'm good on waranty issues)

The 160,000 Elantra Daily Driver will probably use the same 5k interval. I commute 60 miles per day for work and all but 5 miles of that is highway.

As for the Durango, I think i'll try the 3750/7500 interval. I don't see us driving 7500 in a year so this interval will still satisfy the "at least 1 every 12 Months" If i get to using it 10k a year or end up using it to tow/haul I'll switch to the 5k interval with it too.

I really appreciate all the responses and suggestions. I am old school when it comes to vehicle maintenance. I think I first lost my way when the damn engines decided to turn left. I was raised on V8 Chevy's, 3000 / 3 month oil changes, Valvoline 10W30 and Fram Filters from the moment I got my License and pocketed my first set of car keys. Those days you bragged it up if ya made it to 120,000. Now it seems we do the same but at 300,000 miles. I'm mentally still stuck in the past though I'm trying my best to become re-educated. So thanks to you all, I'm starting to change my mental block on "Fake" oil.

With Mobil One Fully Synthetic the most mileage I would put on with "light duty" or "standard Duty" would be 7500. You do not need to replace the filter in between these intervals, you would only oil and filter every 7500 miles. Placing a oil filter interval between these are not really going to help you because your engine will not break down like when conventional oils are used.

I just do mine at 5000 miles, and if I go over a little who cares. I use my truck for towing and short trips, and my car is ideling and short trips as well as long ones. I just do a filter and oil change every 5000 and leave it at that.
